Please, keep working on wonderful piano transcriptions such as this one. It is simply beautiful.
This is the best news!! I had no idea I loved Bach until I heard you play. Can't wait!! <3 <3
I'm very moved that you appreciate the upright piano. I learned and practiced at home and with my teachers on upright pianos. The grand piano is certainly an amazing creature, but the upright has its joys as well. Thank you!
How true
It's hard to say "one single cantata". Not only because there are so many, but because inside each cantata there are individual pieces. One chorus of one makes me melt, a baritone solo from another does too, but they don't belong together...
It’s the descending baseline that does it. 😢
Wonderful! I was in your spectacular Madrid concert this year, and I'm looking forward to travel to Oviedo to listen to you play as announced in the Teatro Campoamor programme. Your Bach renditions are particularly poignant, besides of course maintaining the precision and flow we're used to from the great masters... Thank you, Vikingur!
Víkingur, it is exquisite, as is your performance of it. I love the whole 'From Afar' album - the Kaldalóns 'Ave Maria' is sublime. Thank you for this and all your recordings/transcriptions. Bravissimo!🎉❤
Excellent
I love the whole Debussy-Rameau album from which it comes. Víkingur is an exceptional talent. I'm a massive fan! 😊
Thanks for what you do. ❤
🙏
Hi Vikangur, how about publishing all your transcriptions. That would be fantastic.
I literally check online every day for another cantata release. This is absolutely divine... Thank you!
Hi Vikingur. I am sami. I am a fan .bought all your recordings so far. Thanks for everything. I wonder how the Coffee Cantata will sound in your interpretation. Give it a thought 😉
Congratulations!
Vìkingur, please never stop making your beautiful transcriptions/arrangements of J S Bach's exquisite music. They make all seem right with the world. Thank you, and bravissimo! 🎉❤
I can totally imagine you playing the fifth movement of this cantata; the aria "Zedern müssen von den Winden.." The parallel lines are reminiscent of what you did with "Nun freut euch", minus the racy tempo, and with the advantage of the glorious character of this piece.
159 sounds like Jazz. I can absolutely hear Bill Evans play something like that. It's meant as a compliment evidently, because Evans' emotional depth in playing ballads or tragic melodies was unparalleled.
Amazing!
❤❤❤
Thank you thank you thank you. My all time favourite cantata. It boggles the mind that Bach would have written this masterpiece when he was 22 or 23. It's no coincidence it would have a similar structure to BWV 992 ("Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo") which dates from the same epoch. The famous fist fight with a bassoon player is related to the very long and intricate bassoon line in the fast movement of this cantata. One aspect that is crucial, and a reason it is best to play the entire cantata, rather than excerpts, is that it is entirely structured as a medley, with no pauses and no recitativ ; again a structure also found in BWV 992. It's an impressionistic single (and singular) work of vocal music that feels like a succession of "tableaux" inside a church. The pace and harmonic progression is breathtaking and one is left upon the very last chord, absolutely mind blown, transported in a state of transcendance. The best full interpretation of it is that of Lionel Meunier's "Vox Luminis" ensemble. Meunier (a singer and conductor) was schooled by the great Philippe Herreweghe, unless I'm mistaken, and the gravitas he and his fellow musicians put into this work is second to none. The purity of Bach's music in this cantata begged to be transcribed for the piano, much like BWV 106 ushered the beautiful transcription of Kurtág. Bravo maestro Ólafsson ! I can only thank you with words but somewhere in the Logos, the spirit of Johann Sebastian Bach is no doubt smiling at you.
Wow, Beatiful.
Thanks for bringing us such really nice peaces. Be blessed
Peaceful
Fantastic
When I listened to „Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir“ BWV 131 for the first time I had goosebumps pretty much for the whole duration of the cantata. I like the version of the Netherlands Bach society especially. They have a great youtube channel.
Extraordinarily sublime! Brings me back to a softer, gentler time. Happy birthday Mr Schuman!
Здорово.
Fucking hair❤
I had to stop immediately and go listen to it! I’m so enchanted ❤️
No problem with the attempt but Gould owns the Goldberg Variations.
Man I love Schuman. I used to Play
